Water for the Village of Bannockburn is purchased from both Highland Park and Lake Forest. The source of the water is treated water from Lake Michigan.
It is the Water Commissioner’s responsibility to ensure that all residents have safe water, and to create a rate structure that will provide adequate funding for maintaining and/or replacing the infrastructure. Inspections and repairs of water mains and fire hydrants are performed on a regular schedule by outside contractors.
Bannockburn is in the process of building an 800,000 gallon reservoir and pumping station to be completed in early 2007. The primary purpose of the reservoir is to provide back-up availability for water in case of drought, a loss of pressure, or excess need in case of fire protection. The Village is also installing a new 30-inch water main from Highland Park through Bannockburn to Lincolnshire, which will provide more reliable water service and help to equalize water pressure.
